what am I doing wrong?

I purchased a used RadioShack Pro-96 scanner with the hopes of listening in on my local police frequencies, etc. instead of using my cell phone app.

I paid for the premium membership on here with hopes of just uploading the CSV files to it.

After uploading everything, I still get nothing......what am I doing wrong???

NE SRS question

Anyone using the new offerings from Whistler/RS to track the Nebraska SRS or whatever it's called now? Difficulty to program? Thinking about a possible roadtrip up north and will be bringing my RS 652 along for the ride. Flagpole HF antennas

I am moving next month to a new home in an HOA in Arizona and while outside antennas are not allowed, flagpoles are.

I found this one at 30 FOOT 10-80 METER HIGH PERFORMANCE COMMERCIAL DUTY FLAGPOLE VERTICAL ANTENNA | ZEROFIVE-ANTENNAS

Has anyone had any experience with this or other similar models?

While I don't expect the same results as a multi-element beam on a 50 foot tower I think I hope to be able to get some decent results.

Backlight color 436/536

When I look at the pictures of the boxes for these radios, the display backlight looks white, similar to the PSR 800

BUT, when I look at videos on Youtube, the displays look blue.

So my concern is that I bought the 396T when it first came out, and I found the display to be unusable. THAT blue color is impossible for me to see, and gives me a headache.

So is the 436/536 backlight similar to the 396, which was a rather dark blue, or is it closer to white?

Thanks

ARC996 Won't Connect

Greetings Folks,

I have looked around for my specific problem, but didn't see a solution, so if someone can help, I'd appreciate it.

Problem: ARC996PRO (demo at the moment) cannot detect scanner.

Specifics:

Scanner: bcd996t firmware 3.02.00

Connection: older usb-1 cable

Freescan works fine. Therefore, I know I have drivers etc. working fine. I have been using freescan for about a year on this pc/os, but I wanted to try arc996 due to the seeming superior data logging/recording.

Any suggestions? Thanks for any info.

GRC NBFM Receiver

Hi there,

For the last few weeks I've been pulling my hair out trying to build a simple Narrowband FM receiver with my RTL SDR and gnuradio companion on my Mint Linux box. Does anyone have a list of the minimum modules needed to accomplish this (and perhaps a flow graph of recommended settings)?

Everything is definitely installed correctly, I just can't figure out how to build the proper flow graph. I was able to build a flow graph for Wide-band music FM stations with a 48k audio sink to my soundcard. Also I can hear NFM VFH/UHF channels just fine in GQRX, I just can't figure out how to construct a proper Narrowband FM Flow graph in GRC...

Has anyone here been successful at running gr-air-modes with a hackrf and actually seeing some real traffic? Here is my predicament. I do not see any other settings to increase anything other than RX GAIN on modes_rx which is limited to 14db.

DMR Data call vs Voice call?

Found a DMR channel going crazy (city transportation dept) and DSD+ just just showing data. Booted up DMR Decoder and it shows Data calls instead of Voice calls. Cops using Skype / Zello / Whatsapp for comms?

Occasionally in Independence County SO communications, the dispatcher will say "Talk to me on 6". I have CloseCall active on my scanner but it has never discovered this mysterious "channel 6". Is it possible that "6" refers to using a smart phone app such as Zello or Skype for sensitive communications? They also sometimes use voice inversion on "channel 3" but this is weak and could be decrypted pretty easily via methods I won't discuss here.

For suffolk county

Thought this might be of some interest

A Suffolk legislative committee Thursday approved the first stage of a $22 million upgrade to the county's emergency radio system aimed at improving clarity and communications with outside agencies in disasters.

Under the proposal, which goes before the full county legislature Tuesday, Suffolk would convert its existing analog system, used since the early 1990s, to a digital system, said Michael Postel, communications systems director with the Suffolk County Police Department, which manages the county radio system.

Under a contract with the county, Motorola would provide about 2,000 new portable radios and 750 units for vehicles, and upgrade software on an additional 4,000 to 5,000 radios, Postel said. Suffolk also would use the money approved Thursday to add antennas to existing towers and replace radio base stations.

The upgrade would permit "crisper and clearer communication" and let agencies from outside the county more easily communicate with county personnel during emergencies, Postel told the Public Safety Committee Thursday.

The current system, which will be phased out over the next few years, is so old that parts are difficult to find. "There's no more support for the existing system," Postel said.

The committee unanimously appropriated $11.9 million for this year, which Suffolk would borrow. The county's capital budget includes an additional $10 million next year for the upgrade.

Legis. William Spencer (D-Centerport), noting that Suffolk will repay the borrowing over 18 years, asked, "Is the next best thing going to come out in two years?" Postel said that, while he couldn't guarantee that the technology wouldn't become obsolete, Motorola just began using the system three years ago.

Legis. Kate Browning (WF-Shirley) noted that there have been discussions about replacing the radios for years. "We should have been replacing these systems two years ago," she said.

Reports of crackle/popping sound from cobra 29

I am helping a friend get a cb setup working, I think we've decided it must be something strange with the ground / electrical. The radio will transmit crystal clear one minute, then it will be so crackle sounding you can't even understand him. My question is, what types of filters should I now install, as last resort options? I have installed many cb's in the past and never encountered this problem.

Im thinking it is simulcast here or something. Any advise for a newb learning p25? In my talk groups i entered the north and south frequencies. They are running on wildcard. As far as the state police, i have no idea if this rig auto decrypts NAC or PLs. Is this scanner useless were i live in northern Madison? 73s Jerod

Mobile Toll Transponders

I didn't want to post this to the wireless/everything else forum for the reason that will soon be apparent so bear with me.

We have an early model toll transponder that takes batteries rather then the current crop of passive RFID units. This one will beep and the led will show positive confirmation of interrogation when passing a toll point. It will also signal for low batteries. This made before the now common adhesive type that prevents you from moving it from vehicle to vehicle and uses suction cups.

Over the years we've had it, it's remained silent except for two toll roads we seldom use. Now every so often we get a green light and beep driving around. Checking the website account, there is no valid entry for a toll deduction from the balance that day. Only when we use the two expressways.

So the question I'm asking is are they starting to use these devices as trackers or use them to determine traffic pattern statistics? This would be an important issue as most all the ones on the road are totally passive and you have no idea if they've been interrogated or not. Only the few very early adopters purchased the active units, so most people would have no knowledge of being interrogated.

The unique id is specific now to the VIN/License Plate/Owner/and make of vehicle. The reasoning is if you have an account on file and the transponder doesn't work, the photo can be matched up to a valid account and normal deduction occur rather then paying a mail fee.

The other possiblility is that they are using these beyond the scope of their intended use to gather user habits and create databases of users travels or some other reason.

It's only happened a few times, so I doubt it's falsing after all these years or any major data collection is going on....yet.

Since most all of these devices in use today are the newer passive ones, it might be assumed that few older ones are around and this can be a new means of tracking vehicles. Especially now that the new ones are designed with a permanant adhesive for use in only one vehicle and will be destroyed if you try to remove one.

I've never heard of any discussion about this and it definitely would be related to direction finding and vehicle location.

HP-1 Uniden HomePatrol HP-1 Ground Loop Issues Solved

Just wanted to post this, because after searching the internet for a few days, and spending probably over $100 in stuff, I got the issue solved.

I had my HP1 go directly from the headphone jack to the line in on my soundcard, but I was getting a ground loop buzz.

Bought a ground loop isolator. Buzz was there, just not as bad. This was also a no name quickie job from Amazon until I had time to get a real one, but still a buzz.

Bought a second ground loop isolator from Scosche. I've had good luck with their products. Still a buzz.

Ran two isolators in line, still a buzz.

Bought a new power supply (sometimes they go bad). Still a buzz.

Connected the HP1 via USB and serial method so I could broadcast metadata. Buzz was gone. But had a ground loop buzz when anyone would key a mic.

Got a 3.5mm female to 2.5mm male connector, and went to HP1 line in... Buzz is gone. Transmissions are crystal clear.

In fact, I can now disconnect my USB from the HP1, still no buzz. (still broadcasting metadata, so it's not disconnected).

So it looks like any time you use any line OTHER than line out... You'll have issues. Not sure if that's just MY HP1, or all of them.

what you need is a UPIN number, I had the FBI send me that info today, I have never been in trouble and the last ticket that I received was back in 1992, but I Get put on delay every time. so here is how you do it.

You just call the FBI # 1-877-324-6427 and let it go till someone picks up and ask for customer service for UPIN info.

They will take your info and mail you a package to fill out and a finger print card to take to your local Sheriffs office to be printed and make sure that office put their stamp on it or its no good.

You send the paperwork and finger prints after making sure you signed the back of your paperwork so they can process it and it can take 30 to 150 days depending on the individual.

Close Call and Beyond

Hello all, I have a question that I have not been able to find the answer to after searching for a lot longer than anyone should have to search. I have my BCT15X set up pretty much the way I want it. My question is how or can I take the close call hits and move them to a group with an alpha tag or can I give them an alpha tag if I can't transfer them to a group? Also I can't seem to find the scan group mode which I really have no use for until after the first question is answered. What I want to do ultimately is be able to just scan the one group late at night since it is local and anything going on is probably close to me. The older scanners you could just load up a bank with all the local stuff then just scan the bank. The group I created is in a system I created and it is the only group in the system at the moment. So if I had to I could just scan the system if group scanning is not possible. I created the systems and groups with free scan. Thanks for any help you might be able to provide me.

RFGUYS Non-responsive - BEWARE

I am really not sure where to post this in the tavern....

Myself and several others I am acquainted with have been having issues with RFGUYS.

Orders have taken more than nine weeks and still not arrived. A programming cable had a broken pin in it when it arrived, making the cable useless. I personally sent 8 emails to sales@rfguys.com requesting verification information on where to return a cable as the return address is a house in Blaine Washington.

I have had absolutely no reply by email or even a phone call once I offered that as an alternative.

I program radios for others, mostly because I have the software. Anyone I perform this task for is asked to purchase their own programming cables if I do not have the one needed for their particular radio. Once I am done with the programming, they get the radio and cable, hopefully saving it for the next time they want programming done. There are just too many cables to keep track of for all the variations.... I will regularly recommend RFGUYS as a resource for obtaining the cable. Their prices are/were reasonable.

Now, I have four friends who wanted to have radios programmed but they have not arrived, even though they each got emails saying the cables had been shipped. One person has close to $400 in cables that have not arrived in over nine weeks since getting that email. Now, he is also not getting any responses.

The other two have simply given up and found cables (a bit higher priced) just to get their radios programmed. The cables and radios are heading to my shop as I type this......

I believe these cables are being manufactured in British Columbia Canada, just a stone's throw from Blaine, WA. It would make sense that RFGUYS hop over the border and pick them up before shipping, but for some reason, this isn't happening, nor is drop shipping.

There is no phone number listed on their website and I have even dug into trying to reach someone through the ownership of the website domain, but that number has been disconnected.

If nothing else, buyers better beware, based on the recent experiences I and several others have had. It is not cool to take money, and a lot of it, without any sort of action or response to make things right. They used to have a great reputation.

I have to wonder if anyone else is having issues getting their order and in a reasonable time or having issues getting responses to emails. If you are, it would be worthwhile to shout it out everywhere possible so others wont make the same mistake and loose money/time.

This new antenna is now up high (not behind the cab down on the truck frame where I put the magnet mount). I was getting awesome reception!! ESPECIALLY on the CHP (42.44 low band) from a good 50 miles from the base station (the low band reception was my initial concern as the antenna is much shorter than the magnet mount)!! TWO THUMBS UP on this model. Not that it matters, but it is running a BCD536HD.

Wondering on how i can make this radio go out of band?

Its a 32ch with full control head, 150-174mhz. I want to use this for APRS on 149.44mhz

Is there a way i can force the radio to go down that 600khz?

As of now it wont let me program it into the radio, but when i change the band to the 136-150 it does allow it to go in but i get the beep and flashing on the screen and not able to TX on that channel.

I tried the ole google and no luck or just wasnt looking at the correct stuff but i couldnt find anyplace that showed how to drop it down a mhz.

Any help would be dandy. Iv got a few of these laying around and would like to make some use of them for the ham club

EZ Scan Library Updates?

Folks I have recieved many diffrent answers to this question so here goes. When you update the library or database does IT automatically update the systems, talk groups,frequencies...ect in your scanner or is this like Sentinel where you have do the updates then apply them to your lists? Like a jerk on both scanners I thought by doing the weekly updates and writing them to the scanner I was updating my data.

WS 1080 scan list vs scan set.

Hi:

I have a 1080, and having troubles. I programmed it and went menu. Set it to scan and it said and it said nothing to scan. What do I do to scan? When I got the radio I entered my zip code. Then programmed it. Then I deleted the location part. Did that have anything to do with it?

Thanks

When you have your GPS hooked up to the Home Patrol 1, and turned on, do you have to adjust the range, or does that do it for you? I have not done anything to it and I hear talking. BCD536HP Update? Siren app (beta)

It's been two weeks since ive seen any news about the Siren App. Granted, some have been waiting over a year for any meaningful update.

@UPman or anyone with knowledge on the matter, is there going to be a beta testing phase (that consumers can participate in)?

I'm sure someone will find a bug or two with the "official" release. I'm also nearly certain a handful of users will hate the initial release for various reasons of their own. While many will be expecting perfection the longer this app spends in "testing", I think a lot of us would be happy to see something at this point as opposed to nothing. Anyone agree or disagree?

Difference between UBCD996T and the BCD996T

Hey guys,

Just wondering what are the differences between the UBCD996T and the BCD996T apart from the market?

For where I live we don't have frequencies in the trunking database (freescan) available as all our police freq are on the conventional database and run in the 450-490MHz range baring between standard uhf and P25 digital groups. My question is, since I believe I don't have to use the Motorola type 2 system am I able to import a BCD996T and use it easily. I'm told it doesn't have the upper bands of 800MHz system Australia use, is this correct?

BCD436HP new owner not catching on

Hi guys! ive had this scanner in my possession for several hours now, and cant seem to "make it work." Starting to feel a bit overwhelmed lol.

basically, the only thing ive figured out with this scanner so far is how to type in my zip code, and get stuck scanning everything in what seems like a 50 mile radius of me. And then pressing Avoid every time a channel i dont want to hear becomes active.

I know this scanner has the full database in it. Is there any way to just go in to that and pick and choose what you want to "upload" to your favorites list, like you would do with ARC XT connected to RR?

Kenwood TK-830 PTT Problem

I have a radio with a good COS that successfully triggers the PTT on two radios I have here. But when I connect it to a Kenwood TK-830 I see a "TX" indicator in the display but no carrier is produced. A Scope across the COS/PTT and GND shows a sharp transition from 5 to 0 volt (as expected) and a residual resistance on the COS line (when low) of about 12 Ohm. To check this R isn't the problem I found I can put as much as 7K in series with the PTT to GND on the TX and get the carrier.

Lee Co. question

Morning all,

Yesterday I was spending some time in the radio room and noticed that the Auburn PD frequency was dead quiet, no activity at all for nearly an hour. Most unusual as that is one of the busiest of all that I monitor. I then began to hear some calls indicating either repair or maintenance were underway. The system came back up briefly and then a call went out to all units that could receive to go to 'PS 2'. I heard a similar event late last year where the dispatcher sent all units to PS-2 for about an 1 1/2 hours. In both cases without other notice they simply went back to using the standard frequency. Does anyone know what frequency PS-2 is or if it is something other than radio? It wasn't the frequency for medical emergencies and when I tried to simply search through that part of the band I was not able to find them elsewhere. Just wondering what the backup plan is over there.

So I have dropped my pro106, 1 too many times. It no longer would recieve or stop on any freq. I was so mad that it was broke, I threw it again. This time I could get the NWS and a few Vhf freq fine, but the P25 and a few utf will come across but the audio is very very low or sounds like the decode is raw data, other times it works fine.

I have been holding out on buying a new unit but now I'm pretty much in a tough spot. Is there anything new to be released this year? I am not really a fan of the home Patrol, I feel that its a horrible idea to trust that you will receive a frequency that isn't automatically in the system.

Fire tone outs

Winnebago County Sheriff and Fire, Oshkosh Police, Fire / EMS

Ladies and gentlemen...

My name is Chad. I live in Winnebago county, after some stuff happened that I couldn't listen to, because the combined Winnebago/Outagamie feed was down, I applied and got to host the above feed.

I live in a small town, and I'm a volunteer firefighter.

I am originally from Southeastern Wisconsin, where I listened to the scanner much more, because much more happens in the city than when you live out in the middle of nowhere.

And I blame my dad for getting me involved with scanners.

That's a bit about me.

As for the feed, it scans all Winnebago public safety, including Winneconne and Omro police, and rural fire main.

And I didn't post here until now, because it took me about two days and $100 to figure out how to get the ground loop hum out of the background.

I tried a ground loop isolator, helped a little bit. But then I connected the radio via a USB connection, and the hum was gone. So now I'm actually happy with the broadcast.

And it took a bit to figure out metadata and what have you, but I think I've got it mostly solved.

Anyways, I am looking forward to more posts here, and hopefully, eventually, a better radio than my HomePatrol-1, and the pile of older analog handhelds and bases.

Tapping into audio from a Motorola astro

I'm sure I'm leaving some pertinent info out here, so please feel free to ask any questions. At my firehouse, we have a Motorola astro 800hmz base station radio. The accessory out cable appears to have an audio feed that goes to the speaker attached to the bottom of the radio. I read some threads that explain that it is possible to tap into this feed. I would like to tap into this feed, safely, and send the audio to our amplifier to be distributed throughout the station to existing speakers.

The radio is on the Charlottesville/Albemarle 800 p25 system.

Nice amplified speaker for scanners

Was looking in the w-mart today for a small amplified speaker for my old RS Pro-136 scanner, and ran across a pretty nice item that works. If you don't mind having another wall-wart plugged in, and need an external speaker for scanners , or something else, take a look in the bluetooth section of your local walmart for this "Sylvania model SCR1986BT-AS Bluetooth Autoset clock radio with USB charging."

Has the AUX-IN jack that matches the outputs on most of my scanners, and already had the cable so I bought one of these. It is QUITE loud, and clear with front-firing speaker (unlike this PRO136 which fires toward the ceiling). Digital clock with alarm and FM radio, which I haven't tried yet, but for 18.88 is cheaper than most amplified speakers I had seen. Big LED clock display for older eyes like mine, with dimmer.

I think its a keeper. The little box is about 5"x5" square with rounded back.

I'd try posting a link but not sure if that is allowed.

I am not familiar with this technology, but was listening to TPD and OHP track a stolen car

Anyone know more about this technology? I assume that with its use, a officer can

immediately gain information about anyone, immediately, based on this technology,

as well as the ability to track a person's location (without their knowledge)

I am wondering if this is a "good thing" (so to speak), or, a "slippery slope" privacy issue...

Well it looks like the Ernie's Electro Com LTR trunk in Hamilton has been converted over to a NexEdge trunk. Also the Mobile Business LTR trunk in Hamilton looks like they might of down on some of their frequencies. 1.) How do you feel about that?

3.) What will you do if/when we lose it?

And before you say you'll just use GMRS or FRS or MURS, it has been predicted that will be lost as well.

Help Getting Help!

Where would be the best pace to submit this question?

I have a pair Kenwood TK830’s I want to use as a repeater pair but am experiencing some difficulty.

1/ The RX unit has been modified to bring a buffered/isolated “Go To Gnd on COS” to pin11 in the rear 15 pin data socket. This has been tested and works.

2/ The TX machine also works as expected using a microphone (“TX” in panel and a full S meter” on a nearby monitor radio).

3/ If The TX’s PPT is grounded to pin 15 (GND) the front panel shows “TX” and a carrier is generated as evidenced on a nearby radios S meter. The radio works as expected

BUT

If the RX/COS is connected to the TX/PTT and the RX is ‘woken up ‘ by a nearby radio transmitting on its frequency its front panel shows “TX” (as expected) but NO carrier is transmitted (zero S reading on monitor radio)! This is also true if both radio’s GND(15) pins are connected together or not.

Question;

What is the microphone doing that a valid PTT in the back isn’t?

Why would the front panel say “TX” without transmitting a carrier?

New to the 436HP

Hi All,

I am new to the BCD436HP and the modern scanning world. The last time i used a scanner it was using crystals...LOL yes, I know years ago. Anyways I am trying to help an older uncle get this programmed. I have read the manual a couple of times but it just isn't syncing in.

I want to accomplish the following:

Set it for about a 60 mile radius around his zip code (think I got that one figured out).

Do I need to set the FTO to get fire station calls?

How do I configure the scanner to turn the display backlight when any station is received.

How do I configure the LED light colors (e.g. EMS call WHITE, FIRE-RED, MIL Green, etc)

How do I set the delay longer than 2 second when a call ends. Do I have to set each and every station manually in the software for a longer delay.

Thank you again in advance for help.

antenna "ground plane" question

I have seen posts saying an antenna needs a "ground plane" to perform optimally. I inquired earlier about buying a "mirror mount" (aluminum mirror on a semi) setup. I went ahead and bought a ProComm kit (model JBC290MM). I am listening to it now on my Pro-197 I am using as a base in my apartment. I am currently receiving everything clear, even agencies whose dispatches are located about 35-40 miles from here. My question: does anyone have experience that says once I mount it to an aluminum mirror (on my semi), that it may not work as well as it is now? If it doesn't, I am thinking about getting a BNC "T" splitter and using BOTH my Radio Shack magent mount (I am using now and it is magnetic mounted on the truck frame behind the cab) and this new JBC. Obviously I wanted a mirror mount as the antenna is up higher and out "in the open" (not low and hidden behind my cab). Thoughts are appreciated.......

Thank You all.......

UBCD996T double/triple indentical sites

Hey all,

New to the forum so forgive me if this is in the wrong place.

I'm in the process of purchasing a Uniden UBCD996T and have downloaded freescan and started creating my scanning database consisting of police, SES and QFRS.

Whilst importing the system for QFRS I noticed that there are 2 and sometimes 3 listings of the same frequencies for different towns. My question, if I have all 2 or 3 sites in my group when the shared frequency is transmitted on will the scanner have a fit or just list all 2/3 options? has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks in advance.

Vehicle Chase on 1-27-2015

Did anyone hear the vehicle chase that Boone County was chasing a vehicle doing over 100 mph that was wanted for aggravated something I forgot what they said was the charges. But Boone County was calling the pursuit on TGID 1376 that went up to Rockton, IL and then back towards Rockford,IL. in the county. My friend tried to pick it up on his PSR-500, I was listening to the chase on my BCD436HP and he could not hear the chase on the Boone Couny channel for some reason. He has the talk group in his radio and I believe the control channel. Boone County did not go to Stacom phase II do they? Also did they lose the vehicle that they were chasing?

HF Noise - Help with noise and what Im working with

Its been a long time out of HF and been tinkering lately dusting off old gear and such. My question is with HF noise levels and what is acceptable or not. Here is where I'm coming from. I setup my HF gear and did not have a proper antenna so I used one that was out of HF band slightly. I was enjoying some signals with a noise floor of about -110db and was doing okay with it, I needed a proper HF antenna so just got and installed a PAR-EWL? ( may got name wrong ) 45 foot wire and got it a few feet outside in a horiz config.

Now my noise floor is at -80/-85db so my noise has increased which got me a bit concerned because alot of the stuff I was getting was on the weak side to begin with. Don't get me wrong it seems to be working ok I still get the strong broadcast stations and what not but unsure if I'm missing.

What I don't get is if I'm doing okay or not at that noise level? of course less is better and I do need to get my antenna higher and further away but have limited options right now. I just have no reference to go by, what are other folks noise levels at, is what I got workable for the DX work or am I wasting time and need to correct this.

I appreciate any help from you HF pros out there.

Beast vs Kinetic?

I currently own a GNS 5890 stick and plan to upgrade in the future to either Beast or Kinetic product. What seems to be the prevalent choice? What seems to be the best ADS-B receiver yet? Why? Do both work with whatever software is out there; e.g., Plane Plotter, Base Station, etc.?

Multimon-NG question

Hi there,

Can someone explain the meaning/structure of the terminal output generated from Multimon-ng? For example:

90915.513350,0

90915.558701,0

90915.604053,0

90915.649404,0

90915.694756,0

90915.740107,0

90915.785459,0

90915.830810,0

90915.876162,0

90915.921513,0

90915.966865,0

90916.012216,0

What does this represent? It seems like Multimon-ng constantly outputs data even in "quiet" mode, and even when it's not decoding any pager data. How are you supposed to know when pager data is getting decoded?

Also whenever I pipe the terminal output to a file, it gets enormous (hundreds of megs) after just a few minutes.

BCD536HP BURN IN PERIOD?

BCD436HP Sentinel: Favorites List Monitor Option

In the Edit Profile > Scan Selection tab, it has options for each Favorites List to "Monitor" ON or OFF. If a Favorites List Monitor is set to ON, does that mean the FL will be scanned by default when the scanner is powered on? And if set to OFF, it will not scan by default?

If the FL Monitor is OFF, can I have it scanned by pressing the FLQK for the FL?

If my thinking is correct, you would set Monitor to ON for all the FL channels/systems/whatever you want to be scanned automatically when it's turned on, and for the ones that are OFF you can scan them by using the FLQKs, and also if you hit the FLQK for one whose Monitor is ON that would stop scanning for that FL until you reboot. Is that how it works?

Second question: If you have FLs enabled and also Monitor Full Database checked, will it scan more channels than whats in my monitored FLs based on the location/range? If I only want to scan what's in my FLs would I uncheck Monitor Full Database?

Yaesu 2900 modulation problem?

I cranked up the power to 75 watts for a contact but he said I had good RF but no modulation. I then checked in locally with 5 watts for a radio check and he said it sounded good. DSD on a P25 Simulcast System?

So I'm using DSD+ with an RTLSDR dongle. I am not getting super great decodes, even after running dsdtune. My guess is that this is because we have a simulcast system here (this is Ohio MARCS-IP).

Is there anything special I can do to help with this?

Right now, my setup is just Unitrunker feeding audio from the rtlsdr right into DSDPLUS with virtual audio cable.

173.45 $167 Encrypted Downtown Sacramento

At around 3:10pm today I was scanning the Federal VHF and UHF ranges (1/27/2015) and I received and am still receiving encrypted traffic on 173.4500 with a NAC of $167.

Based on that NAC I'm going to assume it's FBI traffic of some sort, but I could be wrong.

I'll keep on monitoring it and see if any unencrypted traffic comes through (as well as the entire Federal VHF and UHF ranges).

Need help programming a VX3000v.

It was given to me out of a trash bin along with programming software. I bought a programming cable and have been ale to access the program. I cloned all the original stuff from the radio to the computer and made the changes I needed. Frequency, tones etc. Something is still not right though. The radio will receive but the squelch has to be manually opened by pushing the monitor button. Not sure how well it transmits because i want to be sure I can hear any replies before I try to transmit.

Also, I'm not sure how to change the front panel display. Even though the frequencies are changed it still indicates the original channel names. Just hoping someone may have had a similar project and can give some input to help me along.

Thanks a bunch for any help.

mobile radio wattage

Hello,

Wanted to see if I can get some input on something. Got my first SWR/power meter last week, and was messing around with it, tested a buddy of mines base station that has his own private frequency for his farm, and the power reading we got was almost 80 Watts of power. How is this possible if he is only running a 50 watt radio for his base station. The radio is an HYT TM-628H, radio has not been modified in any way. Does this have to do with the way his antenna is tuned? Thoughts? Thanks.

New Petersburg FCI Phase 1/Phase 2 TRS

When programing my 536 I discovered the Petersburg FCI has a new P25 Phase 1/Phase 2 trs. Normally there are frequent comms. Using one of my DMR decode systems for testing I found the old 5 frequencies had been abandoned and so far I have identified 4 of possibly 5 new frequencies. As sometimes happens Pro96Com works and at other times it won't work with my desktop. Today was one of the times it wouldn't work. I try again later with another computer.

I used my DMR Decode systems and DSD 1.6 and DSD PLUS software for testing.

The new trs monitored attributes are:

SYS ID = 6DA

407.4125 mhz. = Control Channel & voice NACS = 6D0 & 7D0

408.0125 mhz. = Voice NAC = 6D0

408.6125 mhz. = Voice NAC = 6D0

409.0125 mhz. = Voice NAC = 6D0

Unknown Freq. = Voice NAC = 6D0

System Type = Either "P25 Standard" or "T2 XDMA"

The 400 mhz. custom edited table still is required.

All talkgroups appear to be new.

Change to digital

My home town, Coffeyville ks, has purchased digital equipment and announced they will be switching to the digital system soon. This announcement has me feeling uneducated. I have been looking at digital scanners and trying to read up but I still don't feel like I am getting what I want. How will I find the information I need to continue listening? I realize I will have to buy a new scanner, but should I buy a program or have it preprogrammed? Do I need to wait until the system is established before I buy. Thanks for the help.

Most Common Commercial UHF Radio

I've been paying more attention to the brands and models of radios various businesses in my area are using. I've seen 4 or 5 places use the Motorola CLS 1410/1110 and nothing else. It runs about $180 (I'm sure they're cheaper for commercial uses) and have a 1W transmission power. Which is nice, because I have the first 30 channels programmed into my scanner which means I don't have to do much jumping around. I can hear my local Cracker barrel from my house over a mile away.
