ICOM 718

Hello all, cheers, from me, KD2HQK. I'm very newly licensed myself...so go easy on me. I just bought a secondhand ICOM 718 from a guy on ebay....since my hand-me-down Drake TR7 is experiencing an issue I don't know how to fix.



I haven't received the ICOM yet, but I just went online and printed the whole manual for it....and have been doing a little research on it. It seems like a great beginner radio from what I've read online, and I got it for what I feel is a fair price (hopefully it works alright, and I don't have any issues with the seller)



I was just wondering what the opinion is on them? Thoughts? Things to look out for? Issues, or caveats, or cool tips and tricks?



I'm interested in doing some digital transmissions, SSTV, PSK31, etc..... Is this a decent radio for that? That stuff wouldn't work at all on my old Drake rig....I tried...it did however work on a old Cobra CB I have over short distances...lol



Anyways, anything cool or useful or helpful you can tell me about this radio if you've had one personally is welcome. I've been reading about it for an hour or so, going to read some more stuff now.
