Got a PRO-650 for Christmas....

I'm new to scanners but am computer savvy. I ordered the USB cable to download frequencies to my new scanner. Got my cable today, installed software, found no PRO-650 in the driver list. Called scannermaster and was told the 197 driver would work. Installed that driver... No matter what order I hook up cables and launch software my scanner continues to display "no connection". What have I done wrong?
