The RR Legal Society

I want to put a stop to something on RR here that irritates me.

In another forum, someone just posted a query about whether flashing red or clear lights would show better thru red tail light lens. Right away two people reply "Are you a first responder? Is it legal for you to do it? Their replies don't even come close to answering the query.

When someone ask about putting up a repeater, the first replies are "Are you licensed? Will your antenna be too high?"

Queries about programming radios are met with "Are you using illegal software?"

Someone wants to know how to modify their ham radio to talk or listen on their work frequency, and the first 5 replies are "It's illegal, it's immoral, you'll shoot your eye out."

More and more, you see where queries for help are met by replies from board lawyers that do not actually answer the OP's query in any way.

If you don't know how to modify the radio in question, just don't post a reply.

If someone wants to program their radio, and you don't know how to program that particular radio, just don't post a reply.

If you don't know how to mount red lights on a vehicle, just don't post a reply.

If you don't know what freq an agency dispatches on, just don't post a reply. Don't post "Check the database, check the database!!!" More often than not, the database is just a list of frequencies. It don't tell the OP what channel is dispatch, or what channel the dog catcher is on. If you don't know the answer, just don't post a reply.

And if you don't know the answer, don't post "Google is your friend". Just don't post if you don't know.

Let's get away from replies to OP's, that do not answer the question.
