In AZ, new to scanning

Thought this would be a decent hobby to get into, bought a Uniden BCD396xt. Bought a premium subscription to RR and used FreeScan to import RWC and ASU systems. Have those uploaded to scanner. I just sit and listen while it scans then press Hold when I hear something interesting then Scan when it's over.



Am I doing it right? Are there things I should enter manually outside of the import? I mostly like to hear police, fire, emt, etc. I know the juicy stuff is encrypted or headed there. I am in Tempe, AZ if that is helpful.
