newbie can't escape search mode

My BCD396XT is stuck in some kind of search mode, i think; when I turn it on, it goes through Custom frequencies that I probably loaded when I added the Ham Radio frequencies from RR. I tried using my startup keys, my quick keys, but those keys are not responding, and all I get is Custom frequencies rolling by.



if I am correct in believing the scanner is doing searches, then how does one terminate the searches? I'm very new to this activity and find the learning curve surprisingly steep.
