VHF HT-1000 speaker mic problem

I just purchased a used speaker mic for my Ht-1000 radios. I have two of them one UHF and one VHF. It is working as it should on the UHF radio but on the VHF radio the sound is muted on the speaker mic. The mic is working, I have confirmed that. I am thinking it might be a setting in the programming that I am missing. I checked a couple of days ago and from what I am seeing the settings in both radios are the same but of course I could be missing something. I don`t use the software very often even though I was very familiar with it at one time. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
