P25 Phase II help.....scanner settings

I amusing the BCD536HD default settings for the Placer County, Ca. CIRN system. The audio sometimes is "garbled" and barely understandable. Is this the nature of this new system type? Maybe because it's in the mountains? What scanner settings can I experiment with the make sound better?
