I live in Oshawa Ontario and I have been using a scanner for many years. The scanner that I have is a Uniden BC785D with a P25 card. Recently the City of Oshawa Trunk system has updated to the Durham Next Gen, P25 Phase 2 system, which my scanner can not monitor. A note on the Radio Reference web-site says this "Some talkgroups on this system are using Project 25 Phase II TDMA modulation which can ONLY be monitored using a P25 Phase II compatible scanner"
It appears that the City of Oshawa (Fire, City, Durham Regional Police, and others) use this system now.
My question is, is there a scanner on the market that one could purchase that will allow monitoring of this new trunk system? If such a scanner is available, will it require other external means (software etc.) to decode or otherwise hear talk groups on this new trunk system. My main objective is to be able to monitor the City Fire and Durham Region Police.
Any help is appreciated.
