Las cruces PD VHF antennas?

I noticed at a recent training seminar several LCPD units having a conventional VHF antenna either center trunk near the edacs stubs or center roof. Inside xtl5000 still had screen covers on them looked pretty new I didn't get to ask about it but I ws thinking it's for interop with DASO and surrounding VHF agencies. I recall in past they did away with VHF equipment did someone finally get smart and allow the units to monitor DASO and SP like it use to be? It's made me wonder if they have any VHF use again for side channels other then the vlaw32 which I have heard them in past on but figured it was a trs patch to it. I know DASO supervisors had a pd unit radio and it took state while to get some in a few units back in day but not all had them. Mostly the district local units the district district units never had a LcPD radio.
