PL Tone Question

Hello, in looking through the Data Bases on the web site I see a lot of PL Tones listed . In reading some of the post and watching some of the videos , I can see some people feel that in entering PL Tones information in a scanner may not be needed.



I know and understand the part that a PL Tone plays on (Transmit) but is it really necessary on receiving a signal in a scanner ????

Does a signal being Conventional or Trunking have any thing to do with using them ????
