I just got a PRO-668 at Radioshack for $100. Was hoping it would be useable enough without software since I don't have windows but wasn't able to find some of my local trunked systems so I decided to update the library using Linux.
The software on the SD card ran fine using wine (http://winehq.com) and managed to update to the newest version of the software. Updating firmware obviously doesn't work but the software will download the library to the local computer. It is stored in the "PRO668 DIGITAL" directory on your computer. Inside of that is the DB directory that contains the Library. Simply replace the DB directory on your SD card with this one and you will have the newest version on your scanner. I would backup your card first to be safe.
It is most likely possible to transfer other settings, lists, etc.. using this manual copy method but I haven't had a chance to dig into it. Please let me know if you do and what does and doesn't work.
I tried to get more direct functionality out of the software but it is going to require more work. In order to get your SD card to show up in the software you need to use winecfg to map the mount point for the SD card to a drive and set it as a floppydisk type. Unfortunately even though it shows up it fails some sort of check and thinks that it is not properly formated so won't copy anything to the card. I think this may have something to do with the drive appearing as NTFS instead of fat32. There is probably someone on the wine forums or irc channel who can help with this but I don't have the time to dig into it. Let me know if you do.
As far as firmware updates and radio control go it uses a USB serial link which might be possible to get to work. This might be helpful: USB - The Official Wine Wiki I would be careful with firmware updates though as you could brick your radio.
I would think this would all apply to the Whistler WS1080 and maybe the PSR800 as well but don't have them.
