Am Frequency and background noise

Hi



I like to listen to Addison Airport Tower on 126.000 AM. There is always a lot of background noise when the channel is empty. When someone transmits i can still here the background noise.



Is there a way to adjust this single channel so that it doesn't stick on the channel when I'm scanning it? It just sounds like the channel is transmitting all the time, but there is none on it



I'm still a novice and would sure appreciate any thoughts. I have the BCD 436, the only time I hear things good on this channel is when planes are in the vicinity and coming in to land.
