I'm looking for a decent soldering station to either accompany or replace my old Weller SP23. The iron I have now works fine, but after a quick look around and seeing my options for different irons/guns and the variety of work stations, I'm a bit overwhelmed. All I've ever used was the SP23 with 1 tip...which is burnt out and I use a file to 'sharpen' a point on the tip for smaller work. I dont do any specific work, nor am I a dedicated solder worker. If something needs fixing, I fix it. From re-attaching a stereo plug onto an MP3 to retracing a board, I'd like to be able to do it all.
I don't think I want a true 'work station' with a heat gun, vacuum, pre-warmer or the such. All I think I need is a decent variable power station. I don't know any brand names other than Weller (they have served me fine), so I don't know who is good and who is not. I think I like the Weller WESS51 station http://ift.tt/1qz393S .
What does everyone else have or use and why do they like it? Thanks for the input.
