I cannot find my old thread so will summarize short and sweet. Mind you I don't know jack about radios. I live in a basement...yeah one of those guys lol
Live on a mountain, Vol FF, Adams County, Pa. Live on the border with Cumberland County and Franklin County.
Adams Fire uses low band is 46.18 mhz range
Franklin Fire uses 400Mhz with 453.550 being dispatch and simulcasted on 46.160 mhz range
Cumberland Fire uses 800mhz with simulcast on 40mhz and some how can do a patch so our low band radios can operate on their system via a patch.
Aside from the patch thing, our low band radios can monitor the low band simulcast but cannot transmit to the the simulcast ECC.
Everyone's ECC can talk on the 154.2800 channel for Mutual Aid but no units on the street can use that channel for it would get screwed up.
I have a discone that is newish and allegedly gets low band up to 900mhz. Scanner is the current Radio Shack base scanner. I also have a mintor II pager.
Adams I can hear for the most part.
Franklin Low Band I use to hear very well. However Franklin 400mhz...forget it. There is a repeater on a tower I have line of sight with me being East of it. Whatever freq the repeater is, I have no clue. I am told since it faces South West, getting a signal is hard. I assume they mean 400mhz
Adams low band is being phased to 800mhz but year or two away so they must maintain low band and when something breaks, online searches for parts are done. Gotta love the NIMS/ICS system.
Franklin's low band is not maintained anymore by the County.
In addition to the base scanner I have DSL onto a wireless router, in the same room but 20' or so away from each other, never been a problem. Lighting in this room is vis balist (sp) that creates static on the scanner when lights are turned on. Lastly as I live in the sticks, I have no cell service. So I user a black tower thing I got from Verizon, hardline connection to router and gps antenna run outside. Works great but it seems to interfere with my Minitor II despite the amp for the pager has a separate discone on the roof. Pager has not worked in months at home, works in the field, also operates when the power is out at the house. No place seems to be safe pager wise in the room.
Could the black Verizon Cell Box be the issue? I know I answered the question while explaing the above setup. The minitor is also 46.18 so again the cell box seems to kill 46.18 mhz and both are within 15 feet of one another. The base scanner is another 15 feet from the minitor and 25 feet from the Cell Box. 46.18 on the scanner comes in well. I have all but lost 46.16 from the next county over. One would think if the cell box jams the minitor it should also jam the base scanner, that is not the case. I do not know how significant the difference between 46.18 and 46.16 is...in my situation? I have moved both discones, have one 20 feet off the roof. Same problem presents and the minitor is jammed.
Unless you all say otherwise, I have two options. I can relocate the base scanner to the bathroom, putting a wall between the Cell Box and scanner. Then run cable from the bathroom out of a different window. Other option is I am using RG6 for both scanner and pager, was thinking about LMR400 but the price for that is high.
So what say you all, questions, solutions, any help is welcome.
Thank You.
