Need help with Motorola Radios

First, let me apologize for my lack of knowledge on this subject, looking for any guidance I can get.



I work for a small town police department, and we contract out our dispatch to a larger neighboring city. They have had a massive radio failure, and as a result we no longer have radio contact with them. Major officer and public safety issue to say the least. The ETA until this is fixed... No eta.



This is the final unacceptable issue we have had with them, and the radio vendor they use.



Our local sheriffs office uses a Motorola 800 system, and carry APX 4000 portable radios with the optional encryption. We have decided to switch to them for dispatch, and use their far superior radio system. We must however get our own radios, and they will program them.



So here is the main question, the vendor that has the contract in our area is the one that we do not want to use because they have put us in this bad stop and have no eta on fixing our neighboring cities radio... so we obviously do not want to use them to purchase these radios.



Are there any other radios that will work on a p25 system with encryption, or are we forced to use this radio and vendor? We attempted to contact Motorola to get authorization to use another vendor, but they say sorry, that is the only vendor we will allow to sell in your zipcode.



I am trying to figure out our options, because right now we have officers with no communication with dispatch and cell phone coverage out here in the middle of the boonies is limited at best.



I really don't want anyone to get injured or worse, all because of corporate bull crap.
