FT-450D Can't change frequency in AM

Once I put the radio in AM mode, the tuning wheel will not change frequency. Can anyone verify that it should or should not do this? The manual doesn't mention anything about this. It acts like the frequency is locked, but once you change to SSB or any other mode, it tunes again.



I was listening to AM broadcast radio and was puzzled by the lack of tuning ability once AM is selected.
