Credits take 3 business days…..Really?

Why is it that when I make a place a debit transaction to a business for goods or services, I immediately see an authorization transaction on my account... However, when it comes to a credit (for a returned item or an ACH deposit) it takes up to 3 business days. Really? We live in the age of instant account communication. This should all be INSTANT! Banks will gladly charge a fee for a "wire" transfer that is complex to execute and is still not instant. It should not take 3 business days to move money from a savings account to a checking account, or receive money from another party. It is instant for debits, why not credits?

Increased listening to okc area online feeds

I've noticed over the past couple of weeks, the number of listeners to local feeds has increased dramatically. It is now rare for the "Oklahoma City Police" feed to have fewer than 100 listeners, has been almost steady at 200+ most days in the past week. Other local feeds have increased as well over the past few weeks.



This weekend, there were 500+ listeners on "Oklahoma City Police", 100+ at the same time for Norman, and other nearby feeds. Is there any reason for this increase?

PAWM P25 - TDMA

On the Plano, Allen, Wylie, Murphy (PAWM) P25 wiki page it states:



"Important Note - Some talkgroups on this system are using Project 25 Phase II TDMA modulation which can ONLY be monitored using a P25 Phase II compatible scanner."



Does anyone know what talkgroups are actually using TDMA? None are listed as using TDMA on the wiki page. I am very curious if it's worth the hundreds of dollars needed to upgrade my HomePartol-1 to a BCD436HP or BCD436HP just to hear these mystery talkgroups.

Audio on the 396xt

I had forgotten how much better audio sounds when using Freescan, Open Band Plan editor and changing audio from narrow band to fm . On digital systems, 150-170 +-, and on 800 mhz,, the audio was just short, choppy, and clippy but when changed to fm, audio comes in and generates full and complete. I had changed that once but overtime, it was written over by Freescan defaults. Not Freescan's fault, mine for not checking.

BCDx36HP Looking for a new digital scanner with remote head

I'm replacing my trusty Radioshack Pro-197 in my truck with something different, and preferably remote head, as I'm building a console to mount a few mobile radios & a scanner in my truck. I know the 996XT's have the remote head, but is there one for the new 436/536HP scanners, or will the same head work for them?

AstroP25 / Xtl-2500 Multiple scan lists

I am programming my XTL-2500 and need some guidance with scan lists. As in a separate list for each zone.



Some pertinent information.



The radio was tested/tuned by a /\/\ technician and I have a good base code plug & copies to work with.

I have a valid copy of RVN4186AX



I have several conventional zones/modes programmed, & a separate scan list for each zone. The problem is, no matter which zone I go to it defaults to the first zone's scan list. The other lists are completely ignored.



All the conventional zones/modes have been programmed in personality 1.



In doing some looking, I found if I need to add P25 modes, a p25 personality needs to be added. Do I need to add a new personality for each zone (and add those modes to it) to get the scan list for that zone to actually work?

Radio Interference from WIFI Router

I have a Kantronics KPC-3 attached to my Kenwood TM-241 for 2 meter packet work. I have LMR-400 running out to the tower to my J-Pole. When I power up my Netgear wireless router I get a ton of noise on the radio and I am not able to do packet ( b/c of all the noise my receive light won't ever turn off on the TNC )...... has anyone every experienced this?



I moved my wireless stuff out of the shack and into my living room about 10 feet away and I have zero interference.

BCD536HP Choppy Audio

I have both the 436 and the 536 and so far the 436 is working great, but the 536 is a major disappointment.

It seems like the longer i use the 536 the worse it sounds on p25 700 Phase 1. The audio is choppy and getting worse. The audio volume is all over the place on every transmission. I have tried wiping the SD card with reformat, and reloading the profile. Both my 436 & PSR 800 will sound fine while the 536 sounds like $***. Setting Digital AGC a waste, tried FM,NFM,



Sure hope future F/W upgrades will address these audio issues.

What settings are used to program Dinwiddie Co Sherrif channels . Noticed in database that they are P25.Trying to manually Program a Uiden 396T scanner. Any help appreciated.

Digital vs Analog

I have question, about digital vs analog transmissions. I have noticed this not only on my scanners, but also with digital vs analog television as well. However, in this case I will use the scanners as the example. I have three primary scanners, one is a Radio Shack Pro-106, (a digital trunk tracking 3), second is a Pro-2051 (an analog triple trunking 3), and the third is a Bearcat 245XLT, (a HT trunk tracker 2). I scan the KCMO (digital) system on the 106, but I have also analog in it as well. One of these is MERS (Metropolitan Emergency Radio Service), which is primarily used by the local NWS/NOA office to give out weather reports to the are fire departments. They send out a "report" every morning, and sometimes (when I am awake) I am able to hear it. This is the problem/question. If I have the two analog radios on, they will be in synch, however, the digital radio is a few seconds (if not fractions there of) behind. The result is an echo or reverb effect. I have also noticed this on the flat screen (digital) TV, and the old analog TV as well, even though both are off the same feed, the analog is ahead of the digital audio.



My question is why? I simply do not know why or understand why the audio signals do not match up and are not in synch. Any ideas?

Motorola scanner???

Would it be a good idea to buy a motorola radio and try to connect it to our local 800 trunked radio system? Is it possible to get rid of the transmit feature and just get it to scan? This way it would pick up every transmission and would not miss the first few seconds and be super clear? I need some ideas here. This 436HP is not doing the best with our 159.0900 frequency. It has a RS800 a tenna because I scan 800 frequency but it is having trouble picking up the 159.

P25 / TGID 4247 / 851.8500cc / 852.0625a = these 2 frequency's is all you need. Be aware they are some times VERY quiet.

Is Miami-Dade County back on the P25 system ? I was told they had problems with the new system running encrypted. Are they running in the clear ? Or are the back on the old EDACS? Is Fire still UHF conventional?

Carlisle Police Frequencies

I used to be able to receive both the Carlisle Police and Dickinson College Police through the Carlisle Borough trunked system. I noticed I haven't heard much at all recently. I checked and they're all marked as "deprecated" now. Does anyone know what's going on or where they moved to? I'm certainly hoping they didn't move to the Cumberland County OpenSky...

TK-3200 programming

I have two Protalk radios that I want to set up with a repeater. One is a 15-channel TK-3200L and the other is a 2-channel TK-3200.



The TK-3200L programmed just fine and I was able to enter the repeater split. For some reason the TK-3200(the 2-channel one) won't allow me to do the same thing. I can only select my TX and RX frequencies from a drop-down menu and I can't have the TX frequency be different from the RX frequency.



I've tried programming it as a different model (LMR instead of Protalk) but I got an error message saying something about incorrect model type with no way to override and program anyway.



I also noticed that the 15-channel TK-3200L, when read, comes up as an LMR radio instead of a Protalk radio(which is what it is), so there must be some way of forcing the software to program the Protalk radio as an LMR radio, but I'm just not finding it.



I'm using KPG-88D.

I have outgrown my MCA204M and have a MCA208M on the way. With this, I need 8 RF jumper cables to go from the multicoupler to the radios. Each jumper needs to be around 6 feet with a BNC connector on each end.

Alternate Belt Clip on eBay

I was looking for a belt clip for my BCD396XT on eBay because as we all know the plastic ones from Uniden break way to easy, and I ran across this and decided to try one. Uniden BCD396T XT 346XT BCD 436HP Scanner Belt Clip | eBay



I received it and tried it. The space between the V on the clip and the retainer/release is too tight and it is extremely difficult to release the belt clip. It is difficult to describe, but you really have to fiddle with the radio to get it released and it marred the metal button on the back of the radio quite a bit. If the space were not so tight between the V and the retainer, it would likely release easy and be usable. I described the issue in great detail with photos to the seller who just replied in a very short way that he had a no hassle return policy. He did refund my purchase when I returned it, but he apparently was not interested in my feedback about the performance of the belt clip as he had to comment other than he would check the tolerance when he received it back. I was hoping he would comment more and work with me to get a working unit.



Beware that if the one you receive is made the same way as the one I did, it will not work well at all. Seems all it needs it more space which a couple of washers could provide. I do not have any way to rivet it back so decided to return it. If I could have replaced the rivets I really think I could have fixed it.

TPT XTS 2500--Hanging up?

Hi all, I read the forum in reference to obtaining.setting up TPT tones on XTS 2500 in conventional, and I got it working. But, when I key up on any channel, it produces a series of chirps, which sound like an error on my part, I am unsure as to why the TPT tones are hanging up like they are..... any info as to why this is??

Coast Guard in the Desert

I caught an interesting frequency this weekend. I have been hearing units calling “Coast Guard Roosevelt” on 150.7000 107.2PL. This is a repeater, and I am receiving it full signal. I’m guessing there are some extra patrolling activities occurring on the lakes for the long weekend.

BCDx36HP Over Limit?

I'm on a quick trip to the Kittery, ME area and using the 536 in my truck. I have a FL set up for Maine and was listening especially to see if my programming for the new statewide trunking system was good. I got out of the truck and when I returned and restarted the scanner I got an "over limit" message and then the screen went blank. I had to unplug the power to get the scanner to restart. I tested all of the other FLs and all worked fine.



Has anyone had a simar experience? Does anyone know what this message means and how to fix it?



A bit more detail. After restarting witb a different start up configuration I went in to the menu system to see if I could edit the system s in that FL. The system wouldn't load and I got the following error message,



FILE SIZE IS TOO LARGE (UP TO 1M BYTE)



I'm not really sure what the problem is since I have larger systems programmed in other FLs that run fine. FWIW, I was running in ID Search mode.

Got a request to set up a "Silent, or Alert only" channel in a few different radios, and in all of their CPS, the option to do so, gives AND, OR. Which do I need to select for the channel to remain silent until properly activated?

996 Not Staying on Channel

When a 996 fails to stay on a channel, where the delay setting has been activated, does this mean the weather checker or close call is activated? The radio won't stay on the channel/talk group to hear the end of the conversation.

TK690/TK790 Programming issue

I recently purchased a Kenwood TK-790 and TK-690H, with the advanced control head.

Once I got a chance to program it, I noticed that there was UHF frequencies in the lowband radio. This seemed odd so I ended up saving the original programming that was on the radio. Once the radio was programmed I went to test it with my other radios. The VHF portion of the radio was receiving fine and acting appropriately but when test the lowband it was not giving me any feed back what so ever. When programing it did given the error stating the at I need to check the model number.



Has anyone ever experienced this before? Or is the lowband portion of this radio completely screwed up and dead?



The other thing I couldn't get working was the external speaker. I am assuming I just didn't have the jumpers in the right spots. The back of the radios has the 9 pin connector and the control head has the 12 pin. I know that the speaker is suppose to go to 10 and 11 on the head and that on the back of the radio it pin 2 and 6.



If you have any suggestions on how or if either of these issues could be fix you help would be greatly appreciated.

Ideas for HP-1 install in 2014 Jeep Patriot

Long story short, my '09 Tucson was totaled a few weeks ago. One of the vehicles I am heavily considering as a replacement (along with another Tucson or the Subaru XV Crosstrek) is the '14 Jeep Patriot. I would like to mount my HP-1 very similarly to how I had it in my Tucson.

I did a search of RR and only found a few Patriot installs. One of the only installs with an HP-1 was using the cup holder mount, which I would like to stay away from if possible. Besides sacrificing a cupholder, I would like to use the mount I already have. I am the only driver of the vehicle but my wife does occasionally ride with me, so it needs to be out of her way. I am considering the passenger side of the shifter console, but will need to check with one of their mechanics when purchasing that there is clearance for the 1/2 inch screws without hitting anything critical. I would probably even ask if the mechanic can pop the panel to show me. I'd rather not break any clips on a brand new vehicle. Deciding on an antenna location will be an entirely separate matter. I had a Hustler MOR-B on Comet lip mount on the rear hatch of my Tucson and would likely re-use that if feasible.

Need help programming Uniden BCD996XT

I use freeSCANN to program my Uniden bcd996xt. My primary goal is to listen to MCSO in Queen Creek. They are dispatched through the east talk group. (MCSO - East). I am located in Pinal County boarding the Maricopa County line. Whenever I pull up the Maricopa County System I get over 15 Sites and Groups. All I wanna do is download the right site that goes with Sheriff - East County? I'm kinda new to all of this stuff. Ive put all of them on my scanner and MCSO - East comes up within different Sites/Groups, which is really confusing. Your help would be really appreciated. Also, how do you have it showing when the dispatcher is speaking? I've seen it on a few video's. Thanks in advance!

I've got a case of alzheimer's going on 2 problems.



1 - For xmas I bought my daughter a bearcat, programed it and sent it home with her around middle of January she put it up in storage, I brought it home and can't remember what program I used to load it up, I have some files that are .996 anyone know which one saves that ext?



2 - I downloaded freescan thinking it might be the one I used, but can't get it to install correctly my .net for windows is up to date it shows in programs under control but 0 bytes. I'm using Micro Ess for virus checker.

Getting a pager to scan on two frequencies?

I am new to everything here and would like to get a pager for Monroe County Michigan. They are set at the frequency 159.0900 I believe. I would like to get a Minitor IV or newer for under $200. I would also like to scan the Lucas County Life Squad channel. Monroe's channels I believe are lower but I think Lucas County runs on the 800. What should I be looking at? How much am I looking at? I would like a charger, batteries, a case, and the pager can be used or refurbished as long as it works and looks nice. Is it possible to set it so that when any life squad goes out it pages me? I am not sure if it has to be one tone activates the page per frequency or how it works.

PRO-197 won't recognize talk groups

One of my PRO-197s has been working fine for over 3 years on a P-25 digital trunked system. I have police, fire and sheriff talk groups programed. There are about 20 others (jail, courts, animal control, public works, etc) that I don't have programmed. Several days ago the scanner went silent. It still shows it is scanning and when I analyze the control channel it looks good, strong signal, decoding 82-99%.



For a test I programmed all the voice channels as conventional channels. I can now hear all transmission made on any of the voice channels.



I did all the resets and reloaded my profile. No change. Restoring everything to factory settings made no difference. Then I undated the firmware to the latest release. No change.



It appears that everything is OK except it will not recognize any of the talk group codes. Any ideas?

BCD436HP Getting the alert light to stay on?

I would like the alert light to stay on during an open squelch, is this possible? Right now it activates and lasts like 5 seconds no matter how short or long the message is.

BCD436HP 436 vs XTS5000??

Howcome when I put my 436 programmed on the same channels as a Motorola XTS5000, the 436 sucks? The XTS5000 is the departments radio and picks up 99% of the chatter. My 436 is personally owned and it picks up 50% of the chatter. I got the RS800 antenna (Radioshack antenna) for 800mhz frequency. Why does my scanned pick up half of the talk? The XTS5000 kicks in and starts talking and 5 seconds later the 436 kicks in and I have already missed the first part. Like for example if I get lucky somebody will say, "thank you" and the XTS5000 will pick the whole thing up but my scanner will only get, "Q" And there are other things that end in, "Q" Think about it :D. All funnies aside is there a way I can tune this or should I look into a different antenna? I have dropped it flat on its face once and it slipped but it was from my hip height onto the kitchen floor which is not hard. I would think this drop wouldn't do much. I have taken the antenna off checked the connectors and put it back on. Also with the RS800 antenna I had to use the adapter that came in the box if maybe that slowed it down. Is there any device like the connector that has the same threads but maybe is a different material and increases the signal?

CSP VHF Repeaters

Anyone know if CSP is still using some VHF repeaters. Heard a CSP 4B Trooper on DTR telling CRCC that he was switching to Buffalo. After that I only heard the CRCC Dispatch side of the conversation on DTR. I was out of range of Buffalo. Buffalo use to be 154.755.

Pro96Com Restore Hit Count Display

Somehow I seem to have changed something and the channel hit counts no longer display on the Site Activity window on one of my occurrences of Pro96Com.



I cannot seem to find where to turn this back on.



It is working fine on another occurrence running on the same computer on a different site of the same system.





Any ideas?

Xtl 1500/2500 soft. Issues

OK! After moving on from XTS 2500s......Ive now been tasked with moving to XTL 1500/2500. Mainly 1500/2500s...... after powering up, and having proper driver, etc..... the cps is installed, I hit read, and it acts as if it loads, and at the last second, freezes my computer up. It did this on two, (2), different computers, and the third time, it pops an error up that says, "CPS Not reconized, please contact motorola soultions for more, and or present license//software permit." It also dims the screen and pops up WRONG CH. Im using R.12 as that was what was given to me, and I belive it is the most current?



I was told by a friend of a friend, that it is not, NON-North American Software....just possibly a CPS Error.



Im simply asking for help, not looking for bashing from anyone, becuase this particluar software was left, and made its way down the line.

From time to time, folks watching the utility forum have mentioned the UDXF (Utility DXers Forum - a Yahoo group devoted to Utes) home page. What you might not know is that there are numerous files there - and I'll warn you that some of it is pretty deep technically - that tells you about things like STANAG, ALE, HFDL and much more.



There are also a document there for how to install Sorcerer, as well as a copy of the DigiFAQ 5.3 - sadly many of the modes in that document are no longer used, but it's still a pretty decent reference.

172.8125 MHz in the Philadelphia area

I was scanning across the federal VHF band and heard a signal on 172.8125 MHz. I live about 10 miles east of Phily. Does anyone know who is using 172.8125 MHz in the Phily area? I had my scanner set up for an analog signal but I heard a buzz/hum almost like a 60 Hz hum.

SDFR "Simulcast" Talkgroup

The past 4 or so times I have travelled to San Diego (I live in LA), I have chosen to monitor the San Diego Fire's dispatch simulcast talkgroup as opposed to 7B. For those that are not familiar with this simulcast talkgroup, it is the exact same thing as 7B but provides a 4 digit DTMF code, translating to the station being toned out. (Kinda giving a sense of where the call is, if you can mentally decode DTMF). I am here today and I am not receiving any comms on this channel. Since I am only visiting for the day, I am unable to monitor the talkgroup after tonight. But I am interested to know, has this talkgroup become deprecated or changed? Is it off the air temporarily or has a new system come into play?

Just learning, Orion NewB...

After running Motorola and Kenwood stuff forever. Ive decided to try to get a Dual Radio, Single Control Head Orion setup running. I have only seen one or two of them, and never actually played with one.



I know I want a a 440-470mhz 110w Drawer, a 136-150mhz 110w drawer, a system control head, a dual radio cable, and the normal power and control cables.



I have already purchased a 40w UHF (D2PMG4) setup that has a NOS systems head and cables and have found a 110w 440-470 (D2UHG7). But I can only found a 150-174mhz (D2HHCX) drawer.



I have read that the Orions dont do well out of band, so is a 150-174 able to be moved down to 146? I have also read that the firmware needs to be the same version to work properly, but cant find information on updating firmware anywhere.



Also, I am having problems finding a programming cable for them.



If any of you can help me out, I would appreciate the help! I have tried to find a turn key setup, but I guess I am going to try to piece it together to make it work..

As posted above, I am wondering what 440 MHz amateur radio repeaters have the best metro coverage currently? I am most interested in the analog modulation repeaters currently. I know that there is some D-Star activity, but I am interested in the analog repeaters for the moment.

Clipping during playback

Hello folks,

My apologies if this has been already covered elsewhere...

Does anyone else experience annoying clipping when replaying transmissions? Often times I use replay to get a correct address for a response, but when I replay the tx, the scanner clips important audio out, almost like priority was on or something...and thus rendering the replay function useless essentially.

Is there any workaround for this huge pain in the arse?

Download Error with ARC XT Pro Software

I've just spent a good part of my morning working on loading new data into my BCD996XT.

I was able to hook onto Radio Reference and I selected the Province of BC, Canada

I have downloaded a few of the counties ... and went back to look at the info.



I am finding that the names popped up ... but for some reason didn't download the Groups or Freq.



Not sure if I'm missing a setting or if there is a problem with certain parts of RR Data?



Any suggestions?

All right guys, I have taken on a monumental task and asking for help.



Here are my findings as of this far, hopefully this help all that are listening



462.1375 Capacity Plus system, CC-3, TS-1, group id of 50, (32015 radio id?)



If anybody knows color codes and frequency's I can figure out the talk groups. The hard part is the color codes.

Pro 95 only scans one bank.

My Pro 95 will only scan one bank. I've done a reset and it stil only scans one bank. Everything is unlocked and still nothing.



Any ideas?

I noticed the ProScan logged in a Talk Group #10401 (6 Hits) on the 700MHz freq. but I did not here any of the transmission! Looked at AWIN System and this number RANGE does not exist! Started looking in neighboring states and found in the MIssissippi system: "10401 28a1 D R1 SE CMN Region 1 Special Event Common Interop Z2 Interop - Zone 2 Interoperability"

Do you recon this was just a visiting Radio in my area and was just passing through?? Thanks

Lucas County?? Channel frequencies

I live in Toledo,OH and I have a Uniden BCD436HP. I have downloaded Toledo Fire frequencies but it seems to be off . . If possible could I know how many channels Toledo has? EX. Channel 1, Channel 2, Channel 3, Channel 4? I have Channel 4 (Structure Fire) and I have Channel 5 (Second structure fire Channel). I believe 7 or 11 is training. I would like to find out which channel these are on so I can program them into the scanner. What do I need? Frequency? TGID? If someone could help me out that would be great. Another thing is Sylvania township, That would be a nice channel list to have as well.

Good day folks ~ Is there a way to delete the recorded audio files all at once on the HP1 or can you only do it individually?

Really....the guy is pretty clever i say...but thats my own opinion and im entitled to that..i live in the conventional land so it dont make any difference to me...but the guy figuring out a system is not illegal...i thought its finding to hack encrypted systems and proprietary things...but figuring out a standalone TRBO repeater...thats childs play to capacity or connect plus or even p25 phase 1 & 2...i have seen the guys radio and have talked to him seems like a nice helpful person...but say what you want to say...i think hes very clever that he can figure this stuff on his own time...just my 2 cents..

Hello All,

Does anyone know how to read the encrypted radio feature codes form an Orion 800Mhz.

When I bring up the feature string in the service software it is displayed as Hex...I have no idea what this radio is set up to do. Thanks

BC125 AT Scanner Help

Hey guys, first post following the purchase of my first scanner! Need some help figuring this out.



I downloaded the software on my computer and programmed my scanner as such:

Bank1: police (all)/fire/ems dispatch

Bank 2: Fire dispatch, fire 2,3,4,5

Bank 3: Sheriff disp, Sheriff Car-to-car, police dispatch, University police Dispatch

Bank 4: University Police Dispatch



For starters, when I hit scan, does it go through all 4 programmed banks (there are a few repeated fz, is this a problem?)? It seems to usually just skip between two. Also, when I turn the selector knob or press buttons, the numbers on the bottom of the screen representing the banks will start flashing or go away for a specific bank. Is this significant?



Also, how to I set it to one bank, so it stays and scans the frequencies just in that bank?



After accomplishing that, is there any way to program a tone for a channel with one frequency that will sound whenever there is traffic.

Listen to EMSA OKC again...sorta

I've been noticing OKC FD telling responding units to respond to calls on "the EMSA channel" lately...but no traffic was ever seen on the database TG556 (analog or digital - used UniTrunker). I did see a new talkgroup on the city system - TG558 - and it was "just" digital...no encryption. Running DSDplus, and WHOA - you can hear EMSA again!!! OKC EDACS TG558 is linked to OKWIN TG 12912. I guess the guys in charge of that stuff figure ProVoice is almost like encryption (but it's not).

Some Help With Icom Software

OK, So I bought a used F6061D off of Ebay. It came with 3 channels pre-programmed in so I know you must be able to write to the radio. I have a F5061 and had no issue with the cable or v.2.7 software I was using. I get this 6061 in the mail, and I can READ from the radio but can not WRITE to it for some reason.



Thinking maybe my software was outdated I installed v4.6 of the software and tried to program again. Nope, same error message of check the power on, check the cable and check the com port. Again, with v4.6 I can READ from the radio, but I can't WRITE to it.



So the seller finally tells me I need v5.0 of the software because supposedly that's what his radio tech used to program it last. So I purchase and download v5.0 this evening and same exact problem. I'm ready to use the radio as target practice!



It's not going to be something as silly as the cable is OK for analog on the F5061, but because the F6061 has digital capabilities I need a different cable?

antenna tuning

Not sure if this is the right category. I am getting an icom 2300h vhf radio and a larsen nmo150 antenna. What I am wanting to know is about the antenna tuning. I know that I can only get TX 144-148mhz and RX 136-172 mhz. I would like to be able to listen to any frequency between 136-172. What should I be tuning my antenna to?

Need Help Choosing Replacement Antenna

Just bought two Radio Shack scanners off Craigslist, a Pro 2035 and a Pro 2052. I haven't owned a scanner in years and am not too knowledgeable on the subject.



Both scanners seem to work but I'd like to replace the antennas with something a bit more "optimal" yet, hopefully, relatively inexpensive. Just looking to listen to freqs in Jasper County, Missouri, primarily looking at fire, police, and ambulance to begin with.



The guy gave me 3 different antennas.



One appears to be a Radio Shack BNC telescopic antenna with coil for freqs 25-1300Mhz.. it seems to bring in a few channels but I'm unsure whether it is more effective extended or not. If I extend it, I can access Weather, collapsed seems better for the police freqs.



The other two antennas are short, rubber coated antennas, which, I'm thinking, were meant for hand-helds?



Any suggestions as to what might be the "best" indoor antenna for these model scanners? The original screw type antenna are missing.

Marshall county Kentucky

Marshall county Ky has stopped working on my elderly mothers Uniden Home patrol digital scanner. It has worked fine for over 2 years but recently quit working. It still shows up like its scanning but never stops on Marshall county. She still gets ky state police and graves county but no Marshall county. What could the problem be and how do we fix it? The control channel is 406.600, CT showed 83.72, SID showed C514

SDR# rename multiple devices?

Does anyone know if its possible in sdrsharp to rename devices? During the driver install I hit edit and gave each one a different name. In win7 I can see the name change under device manager. In sdr# all I get to choose from is "Generic RTL2832U OEM" which lists 2 devices. Is there an inf or something that I can tweak?



I'm pretty new to all of this, I'm pretty blown away by these little dongles....... I made a off center dipole and it works pretty good. I read some posts by 'rbm' and bought some parts to setup a preamp - la-520. It doesn't like the off center dipole. I made another dipole, I think that one was 18in with no 'matching transformer' and it works pretty nice but I'm never satisfied......I think I found a pretty good deal on a new 'RSH' discone for 29 shipped on amazon. I'm curious how that plays out with the amp. These dongles rock!

Looking at a pro - 106, will this pick up state police, game warden, Albemarle, Charlottesville and UVa police. I find the manual extremely confusing.



How do I set search parameters, for example search all frequencies from 118.000 to 137.000 am with a step rate of 8.33 or 12.5?



Also, how do I add specific channels into memory so that I can scan them.



I've tried for hours and can't work it out with the supplied manual.

TGID NC DEA

I have recently updated my scanner and have reprogrammed it to be able to monitor the newly rebanded Wake County talkgoups. Since then, I have not been able to monitor DEA. Typically I have been able to listen to them on bother DEA raleigh and common. I am using the current TGID listed in RR but hear absolutely nothing.

Does anybody know how to get the CE-59 software into dealer/manufacture mode? I've tried the -m, -d, ... at the end of the target line in the shortcut to the program but it wouldn't work. If it helps any, I'm using VSN 4.05 straight from Vertex Standard. Thanks in advance.

Well, I went to the State Fair again this year, and was able to re-verify a number of frequencies on-site, listed below:



452.275 Security repeater (pretty busy)

469.0375 Maintenance (simplex)

469.2625 Shuttles (simplex)

469.3125 Ticket sales (simplex)

MAC-12 (DTRS 4011) Law enforcement (the Goat Hill site seemed to be the best, CC 774.66875)



Of course, as with most events, there's a lot more going on than you realize.

With Holmes County Switching over to the Futronics Connect Plus VHF system, does anyone have any info on it yet?

Is the 442.925 Repeater in Salisbury still linked to the Thomasville 441.800?

Ok, so, I awhile ago did some radio testing with my HT, and outta curiosity, put it on the 'linked' 441.800 MHz repeater, and keyed on the 442.925, ID'd, nothing on my scanner for 441.800; so I swapped it around with 441.800 on HT and 442.925 on scanner. Nothing as well. Did the link go down on these two? If so, anyone know when it'll be back? If ever?

RX Narrowbanded Freq.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. I've gone between a few boards trying to decide, but i figured I'd start here.

I have a Motorola Astro Spectra 45watt Trunk mount VHF radio in my vehicle. It is not narrowband capable. I use a Uniden BCT8 in the house (Yes, I know, old school and out dated). My local VFD has gone narrowband and is on 151.2725, my scanner picks it up on 151.2750. I was wondering if i could program the 151.2750 into the spectra and it pick up just as the scanner does. I'm not needing to TX just RX. also, if that is possible, will it pose an issue with missed traffic or something else?

Baofeng Charged Battery Shelf Life

Has anyone any idea on the shelf life of a charged battery pack for the Baofeng's? Batteries are chap, so I'll have a couple extras on hand, but was curious if anyone had any idea on their shelf life.



How long from the time I charge it and throw it in the bag should I allow it to sit in the bag until I freshen up the charge / recharge?

Hi! I'm new here and would like to get some recommendations for a scanner to hear police, fire, etc.

Do I need capabilities of Phase 2?



MANY years ago I lived in the southern part of the state and the other day pulled out my old scanner only to find it is useless now! I learned a lot on here about the new P25 and know that my area is using P25 Phase 1 but is "Currently migrating". Does that mean migrating into Phase 2, or migrating into Phase 1?

ST2 and yagi on same mast

Currently I have a ST2 in the roof "pointed" to one site of a multi site system. Reception is better than it has been. The down side is that I am now loosing good reception of all the other systems I want to listen to.

Considering a yagi dedicated to the multi-site system.

Questions:

Can I mount this above/under the scantenna and if so how much separation do I need between the two?

Would a cell booster yagi antenna work for a system in the range of 856-860Mhz?

If I invest in a high dB gain yagi any ideas about performance if I place in the attic (I know many variables)



Any other ideas gladly accepted.

Poor reception/decoding of Philly APCO 25 system

I am currently trying to monitor a couple talk-groups on the Philly trunked APCO 25 system. I have a BCD436HP and am using the RadioShack 800MHz antenna with SMA/BNC adapter. It seems like the beginning of every transmission is cut-off and transmissions randomly drop-out all the time (seemingly at the worst possible time...). The only way I can reliably follow a radio conversation is by holding the scanner up in the air and pointing it around like an idiot until I find the "sweet-spot" for the current transmission. Obviously this is not very practical and is very annoying. Is this antenna junk or what? I have tried the stock antenna and also another wide-band telescoping and they don't seen any better. When there are no transmissions the control-channel looks like it is reading full signal-strength so I'm not sure what else I can do. Are the police/fire/ems personnel dealing with these same issues daily??

For the following towns do they use their firegound channels and are they simplex only?

Asking cause it seems like a few of these stay on dispatch channel a lot and don't move to their fire ground channel.

How do you set optiomal receive on Pro-652

I have programmed the pro-652 and a Uniden comparable model with the same frequencies, and the Uniden is picking up the frequencies quicker whereas the pro-652 has a significant delay before stopping on the frequency.

I am a novice on the software (ARC500), and there must be tweaks I can make to speed up the pro-652 response time.

Any help is appreciated.

R-75 repair in New England area

Hello folks:



I have an R-75 that has been used very little, but has an illness that needs some attention and I don't know where to turn. Maybe some members (in the New England region) can give me some hints.



The unit will not power up and wiggling the power connector on the back will no longer solve the problem. I took the covers off and did an internal inspection and what I found is the culprit is where the power connection plugs into the receiver. It is loose and I believe that some re-soldering of that connector is needed. If I was younger and had better vision and the ability to handle a soldering iron without shaking like a new groom, I would give it a try. The unit is way past the warranty period, so voiding that isn't an issue, and I'm thinking an experienced techie could do the job properly without too much effort.



If any members here could offer some helpful advice or may know someone that could tackle this job in the local area, I would appreciate the info.

BCD536HP Replay Settings

If the scanner is quiet for a certain period of time does the replay buffer get wiped out? I ask because most of the time when I get home from work, I'll hit replay and the 240 second buffer I have set is empty. I know replay works since the next time I do hear something, when I hit replay it works.

Bizarre, repetitive sounds on various cordless phones for years. Questions.

I am a new member here. I was directed to this forum by another more experienced member after asking where I should post this. Mods, if this is not the appropriate forum for this topic, please feel free to move it. I have no desire or intention to infract the rules here with my very first post. :)



This will sound quite odd. Or, perhaps it won't. I'm hoping someone here with extensive knowledge of signals transmission and reception science can explain this as a perfectly mundane phenomenon.



Many years ago - we aren't sure exactly when, but we estimate between six and ten years - my friend and I began hearing some very bizarre things on the phone. Initially we thought it was common background static or interference, cross-talk, etc. as we were on cordless phones. My friend's was a cell phone, and mine was a quasi-land line in the form of Comcast digital voice through a cable modem. Both phones were cordless, however.



What we initially heard were static, and a persistent beeping which my friend described as reminiscent of Sputnik. Listening to recordings of Sputnik, I'd say that's a fair comparison. However mixed in with this intermittently were voices reciting lines from Dracula. Specifically:



*A woman with an accent saying, "When the clock strikes midnight, all the evil things in the world will arrive" (Or arise.)



*A man saying, "Enter freely, and leave some of the happiness you bring," "I have no time for gayety or mirth," and, "The stories are not understandable to those in the outside world."



*Sounds of fog horns and sea gulls.



*Sounds of a baby crying.



These sounds would overlap, repeat, and cycle again and again for up to several hours at a time. It always happened in the wee hours of the morning, between midnight and 5 AM generally. 4:30 AM PST seemed to be the most common time during which this would start to be heard.



This alone wouldn't have been too odd to us. However even when my friend or I moved to a new home, changed phone service, or other variables, these events would continue to occur. They also became increasingly bizarre and surreal in nature.



We would hear Morse code repeating the letter H and the number 8 (H being the 8th letter of alphabet, if that's of any relevancy... we found it an interesting coincidence at least.) We would hear strange, high pitch squealing noises which sounded like feedback, or, occasionally, like a kazoo as we approximated it, mixed in with these voices and other sounds. When my friend would call me, he would hear an abnormal ring, followed by a voice saying, "Kill you, make you suffer." (Yeah, I know. You can't make this stuff up.)



On a lark, we tried communicating with whoever was doing this in case we were getting some kind of cross-talk that someone else could also hear or we were being pranked or something. We asked the noise to stop. It did. We asked it to start again. It did. We reproduced this many times. That's when we assumed it must surely be someone somehow messing with us and non-random. Though how this is possible we have absolutely NO idea.



That too didn't worry us until one particular night, the feedback, voices, and other noises were more extreme than usual. Suddenly the phone went dead during this, and my friend couldn't be reached again until the following day. Turned out both my friend's phones - both, even the one that was hung up - shorted out completely and were just dead after that. Replacing the battery did absolutely nothing to revive them. They were just dead.



Now, at this time he wasn't on his cell phone. He was on a cable modelmdigital voice plan with Comcast, just like me. Through a shielded CATV cable. I don't know anything about radio, but someone else I asked said that must have been one hell of a transmission to short out both his phones - even the one hung up. Any idea how this could be possible?



This has gone on for YEARS now, until very recently, regardless of where we lived or what phones we were on. After a particular instance recently - which I would prefer not to detail because it's just too bizarre, and frankly I already expect half of you to think we're just crazy or pulling your leg lol (I assure you, we're not) - all of this activity ceased. After years of it happening almost every night, usually around 4:30 AM PST. It hasn't recurred since.



I am in the SF Bay Area, and this friend lives in the Modesto CA area, if that helps any. We contacted Comcast and other carriers we had at various points, and none of them could find anything wrong with our in-home lines, cable margins, etc. (access boxes were not checked however, as they are not easily accessible where we are.)



I know this is more of a general telecommunications inquiry than a specifically radio oriented one (or is it? I don't know anything about this) but if anyone here could put me onto a lead or potential hypothesis as to explaining all of this weird activity, I know myself and my friend would be quite grateful. It's not an all-consuming concern or anything, but it is indeed something which has absolutely baffled us for years.



We expect there's some sort of simple explanation, and based on some of the events, that whatever that is probably involves someone harassing us or having a bit of fun. Your thoughts? Ideas? Theories?

Oh, and I don't know if this will help or not, but the only part of any of what we heard over the phone that I've ever been able to find online or elsewhere, is the line by the accented woman saying, "All the evil things in the world will arrive." And the only place I found it is in this electronic song by a European group called Wizzy Noise. Please note that the MUSIC was NOT present in what we heard on the phone. Only the phrase. (Which repeated again and again, overlapping, echoing, etc. along with the other phrases and sounds described already above.) Also, I have searched in vain in my spare time for years for the exact dialogue in every Dracula movie I could get my hands on from the library or elsewhere. I know some of the dialogue is definitely from Dracula as I found the lines in the original book. But I have never found a film which contains all of the lines we heard over the phone, word for word. Just differing variations of them. They never occur in a film together. So if this was someone messing with us, as we suspect, hey went to some effort (unless there is some sort of repository of those lines somewhere online, like on a sound board or some such.)



Anyway... all thoughts and hypotheses or suggestions for further investigation are welcome! Thanks again. Please be gentle, I'm a total neophyte when it comes to this subject.

BCD436HP Hold Indicator

I realize the 436HP does say "HOLD" on LCD screen when you are holding, however at times I notice radio is less busy than expected, and I discover I have accidently hit hold button.

I would like for LED such as the close call ID to be on whenever hold is being used, so you do not have to read LCD screen as often.

I can decode the control channel (Site: 24593), but I'm also hearing what sounds like idle bursts from Bush Electronic's Passport system transmitting under the control signal as well. I've previously decoded Bush's passport channel on that frequency.

STARS and Pulaski Co.

I travel to Pulaski Co. two or three times a year. For reasons I do not understand STARS seems to be a dead spot. I have all of what appear to be the appropriate tower information programmed into my Pro 106. I am really only concerned about VSP and VDGIF. (local frequencies do not seem to be an issue) I am able to pick up some faint traffic on the legacy frequencies for the Salem and Wytheville divisions. It seems to reason that this should not be an issue given Interstate 81 travels through the county and it is only a slight distance away from the Division 6 (Salem) headquarters. Can someone tell me what I am doing or programming incorrectly? If anyone wants to share a Win500 file I would be grateful for that also.

Technical Question: Why are CB radios always off frequency?

Seems like a lot of CB'ers that I see on the SDR are always 450hz, 300hz, 150hz off frequency. Are the radios *that* bad or are some users just using older radios?



Do the newest radios have provisions for calibration?

DSD, SDR# and Unitrunker

Just got a quick question, how come I can get better INLVL and a better decode using SDR#?



I have unitrunker setup using 2 RTL dongles, if I have SDR# follow the conversations the INLVL is around 55% and decodes are great. If i use unitrunker, the INLVL is at max 25-30% and the decodes are terrible, sputtering off and on. I would definitely prefer using Unitrunker as the CPU usage is next to nothing but using Unitrunker, SDR# and DSD all wreak havoc on the PC, the decodes work great but the PC can't do anything else.



If anyone has any thought, that would be great, thanks.

What time zone are the archives stamped with? Is it Eastern for all feeds, or local to the each feed's zone?

Sorry to post this, I know it happens from time to time. Just wondering if anyone in the Windsor/Essex area is hearing anything on Fleetnet for OPP or EMS? Searching Windsor and Essex sites, but nothing heard, but I am hearing OPP on their BEAT2 UHF rebroadcast.

ACARS question

I've got an SDR radio tuned to a ACARS frequency and have plotted about 10 planes in the past couple of hours using Multipsk and PlanePlotter.



Will I get more planes if I monitor more frequencies? Do different planes use different frequencies? I live in a rural area so I don't expect to see many planes.

The last few months I am hearing alpha numeric codes when our city Fire is dispatched for assists etc. Some thing like C-6 or Charlie 6. does anyone know or have a breakdown of these codes ? I took my radio out of my truck a couple weeks ago, everything was working fine. Put it back in and was checking it out on 10 meters and seems to transmit fine. Then when I went to VHF/UHF it does not seem to transmit. No carrier on AM, then tried FM and it seems there's nothing.

I am going to check some more tomorrow before work, any suggestions on what may have happened?

I'm completely new here, completely unfamiliar with the nomenclature, science, and technology of this area of interest, and completely unsure where to post a rather odd series of inquiries I have that I have some hope some aspect of the evidently informed and helpful membership of this community might be able to elucidate for me.



I am not a radio hobbyist. I don't even own a radio. However for many years - until recently - myself and a friend have heard some extremely bizarre things over our phones (several different phones, at several different residences,) of a surreal and repetitive nature. While looking into what this may have been, I discovered that what we heard might bear some similarity to certain numbers stations. This was no mere random interference and was extremely repetitive and cogent, if strange. (Even spooky.)



I would like to go into more detail and inquire about this phenomenon, but am unsure as to what forum I should post such questions in. If anyone could direct me to the appropriate forum, I would be most grateful. Keep in mind when considering which forum to suggest, that this was heard over cordless telephones (sometimes cellular, sometimes land lines,) not radios. However I hope the expertise and knowledge base of this community might provide some leads as to what exactly was heard and why. I already have some guesses, but no facts.



I know it's a bit odd. But it is something which has plagued us for quite some time. Thank-you.

trouble lowering tx power on maxtrac

hi i sold someone 2 Motorola maxtac radios and i believe he is going to use them for a repeater. he needs to lower the tx power and he said he cant get it to go down on one radio its at 50 +/- w he said that the radio is taking frequencys fine when programing. just the power issue. i am not to familiar with Motorola. i mess with more kenwood. i would like to help him if anyone has encountered this problem or may know what to do i would appreciate the advice or help. thank you.

Oshawa Centre Mall Transmissions

I really enjoyed monitoring the Oshawa Centre Mall operations and security (451.6625 & 460.9250) transmission. A great variety of calls and situations. However, I haven't heard anything being transmitted for at least a month. Anyone know if they switched radio systems or why they are no transmitting on these frequencies any more?

Whistler Scanner P25 Phase II?

My local government is moving to a Harris P25 Phase II trunking- system from an EDAC trunking -system by the end of this year while the other agencies are Motorola P25 Phase I conventual and trunking. I hate to jump-ship with GRE/Whistler scanners which I been with for a very long time, so is Whistler coming out with a P25 Phase II scanner in the next few months?



Since my local government is going to P25 Phase II and the other agencies are P25 Phase I, will my local government be able to talk to the agencies on P25 Phase I? Is this going to be another interoperability problem?

Comet GP-9 VHF SWR Issue

I have a new Comet GP-9 dual band antenna. When I put it up and checked it out with my analyzer I found that the VHF/2M bandwidth is very, very narrow. It has an SWR of 1.18 about 500kHz below center but the edge of band SWR was 2.6 on the low edge and 4.2 on the high edge (the difference between high and low edge is partially due to being a little off center). The SWR plot is a sharp V with a slightly steeper rise on the upper band half.



The UHF/70cm SWR looks good being fairly flat across the band varying between 1.2 and 1.35.



Just to make sure it was not a coax or other system problem, I replaced the GP-9 with a GP-6 I had and everything looked good. VHF with the GP-6 (everything else the same) was below 1.5 across the band.



The high side VHF is the problem. I read about cold solder joints. I took all three sections apart tugged on all the joints, and nothing felt "loose". Unfortunately the foam spacers are attached at every solder joint so I can't inspect them without ripping the foam off. I have been reluctant to do that as I am considering sending the antenna in for warranty repair. I would prefer to fix it at home but I am really wondering if a solder joint would cause what I am seeing (since the center freq has very good SWR) or if it is more likely that the antenna is simply not tuned well. Given that for the VHF it is a 5/8th X 3 (and the UHF is 5/8th X 8) I currently don't know enough on how to tune that.



So if it is really likely that it is just a solder joint, I will tear all the foam off, see if I can find a cold joint and re-solder it. If it is more likely to be poor tuning, I will send it in for warranty (unless I find info that suggests that re-tuning it is relatively straightforwards, which I doubt).



Obviously I am hoping to get some opinions here if it is likely a cold solder joint or a tuning issue?
