Question about the Whisler WS 1040
II would like to know if the Whisler WS 1040 will be able to scan and process EDACS ProVoice. I live in San Antonio, Texas and most of the frequencies here are EDACS ProVoice. I would like to purchase a scanner that will scan and process theese frequencies.
Scanner Skip question from Ireland
Hi all,
can anyone confirm if 33.04 Rehbein Transit out of Circle Pines uses a DPL of 115?
Heard here in Ireland via skip. Female dispatcher talking about "Bridges" program and "Oak Grove Middle School"
I think this is in Shoreview, MN.
Any help would be very gratefully received.

Understanding STARS
Hello All,
There are a couple of aspects about STARS I would like to understand better. I am located within Division 7 and pick up traffic from the local sites with no problems. My fist question is how would a VSP unit in Division 7 communicate using STARS in another Division? Do they simply switch channels on their radio and talk direct, or do they use one of the several interoperability channels in the STARS system? Would this sort of transmission be one that could be heard with only Division sites, or would you need to program all STARS sites and hope for an interception. Really appreciate knowing how that works, any many thanks in advance.

Minor bugs in audio record and replay
Sometimes scanner UI beep and beeboops get recorded into playback files; surely that's not intended behavior.
When scrolling through replay files on my 536 using the knob, the firmware apparently doesn't reset the codec when it starts to play the next file, because you hear about 200 ms of badly decoded audio, even though it's not in the file being replayed.
And at the end of replaying a file, knob-push does not equate to "E" as it does everywhere [?] else.

Carrier on 500.4875 Burlington County West
Anyone else hearing this carrier on 500.4875MHz. This is one of the voice channels on the Burlco TRS west site. It has been strong here since early this morning and still going strong now. There is no PL tone being transmitted, just a dead key. It keeps locking up my stupid Uniden scanner while it scans the west zone.
I'm also picking up a weaker carrier on 500.5375MHz which is a voice channel on the north west site in Mt Laurel. It's also causing the scanners lock up. My motorola radios are unaffected by this and I've heard no complaints over the radio.
I could hear both of these carriers from the mobile too.
I think I'll dig my UHF yagi out of the attic and attach it to my portable scanner and see if I can determine the general direction its coming from.

Wifi Question (bcd536)
My scanner is connected to my wifi but I am not seeing it on my network. So 3 questions:
1. Should I be able to see the scanner as a device on my network
2. If so should I be able to access recordings on the sdcard?
3. Either of the 2 above are yes, any idea as to what I have done wrong?

Pro 107
Does anyone know if the Software for the Pro 107 is compatible for Windows 8.?
I just want to make sure before I make the mistake and have to uninstall the program.
Also does the Library Update work as well in windows 8 for the copy to the SD card for the Pro 107 ?
Thanks

Digital Scanners - What to get/Scanlist Question
1st Question: I'm going to be buying a digital scanner here in the next few months/days for my county's new digital system and unsure what scanner to get! The system is a P25 Phase I conventional system. Any suggestions?
2nd Question: By looking online I've seen that digital scanners have what they call "Scanlists". Are they the same or completely different than the whole "banks" thing I know? And how many frequencies can be put into a scanlist?
Thank You for any help!!! :)

Berkeley/Jefferson Counties - Federal
171.4625 NFM P25 picked up approx 6 miles east of I-81 on WV RT 9 near the Berkeley/Jefferson county line. What is interesting to me is the fact that I was using Close Call mode at the time so it couldn't have been too far from that location.
Been watching from home this afternoon using SDRSharp and DSDPlus. It has a signal strength of -28db. NAC is 563, Talk Group 1 source id 5801366 is the only activity I've seen. Full encryption.

Another balun question... this one for HF
For HF work, I recently bought an end-fed 6m - 40m multiband antenna from Honolulu EARC (Emergency Amateur Radio Club - Hawaii) which features a 9:1 UNUN at the end of a 30' vertically-mounted longwire. In addition to (somewhat) matching the high impedence of the antenna, will it also serve double duty to prevent RF from coming back into the shack from the antenna, like the 1:1 balun?
I understand that I'll have to use an outboard antenna matcher for this antenna, the Yaesu 857D's internal antenna matcher is not likely to be able to match it very effectively. Thanks!

Weird Traffic in Milton???
I was visiting family last week in Milton was getting some weird P25 transmissions 151.415 (NAC 300). From what I can tell it belongs to the Milton FD. However, I was getting half encrypted traffic over it. Sounded like dispatch was encrypted, and a police officer talking about setting something up at the old mill by the tracks. It seemed weird to get half encrypted law enforcement traffic over the FD frequency about something at the mill, any ideas whats going on?

Uniden Programing File Request for Valley News Station
Does anyone here have a programming file that they use for Uniden Digital scanners? I am giving a class tomorrow at KPHO Channel 5 on how to use their scanners. I can use a uniden scanner just fine, but programming it with the latest valley info by hand (without a software file) will be time consuming. Hoping y'all can help. Preferably the ARC996 file or similar. Thanks!
1 stupid mistake
I just dont believe I did that, I came across a site that has 2 plans for hf antenna's. I THOUGHT it was measured in inches. I did NOT see the word FEET in there. Well, if you look at this page, go down to the 1st diagram, that is what I built, JUST finished. Build a Multiband Shortwave Antenna - Simple Shortwave Antennas for Shortwave Radios! . FUDGE, FUDGE, FUDGE, CHEESE AND CRACKERS, now I got a warped flag frame.. Shoot!!!

VP Biden in Phoenix, 28 Feb
Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (BREW; Opera Mini/6.0.3/27.2354; U; en) Presto/2.8.119 320X240 LG VN530)
I just saw on the news that VP Biden is in the Valley. I didn't catch for how long, or what for.
Has anyone caught any in the clear radio traffic of interest?
The news also mentioned that one of the Firebird helo's, which was providing air support for the VP's visit, had to make an emergency landing in a parking lot near downtown, due to an engine problem, and a second Firebird flew a mechanic down to address the issue.

2 Meter Set Up
I'm not all that familiar with 2 meter except to know that it is mainly line of sight except during conditions when some long distance is possible. I live on a remote island out here in the pacific. The closest repeater is about 80 kilometers away so I will mainly be using just plain frequency radio. I will be a technician in April but I have been in study. What I would like to do is use a mobile 2 meter as a base station with a regulated power supply running into a 1,500 watt linear amplifier, some sort of VHF antenna as high as I can get it. Is this a reasonable set up?
need advice, technologically challenged
Ill apologize in advance because im sure my questions have been asked before, but ive been searching and cant quite find the answer im looking for...
First off, im a 911/radio dispatcher for my local pd, and a volunteer rescue squad member in my local county. I have a Motorola cp200 radio from the county that I use for calls and that works fine, however due to my affiliation with the police department I tend to help them do traffic control for accidents or other random things as im driving by and the issue ive had recently is not having radio contact with the officers due to not having my pd programmed into the Motorola. All the channels on the motorla are full and necessary, so the only option is to get another radio. My plan was to get another cp200 that has 4 channels and go with that, however the more ive looked into doing that the more confused ive gotten. here are my questions:
1) Will a Motorola cp200 be able to rx and tx on my pd's channel? the officers use moto xts2500 and 5000's that are 800mhz, dispatch uses some sort of Motorola desktop (I don't know what even though ive been using it for over 3 years.) Im almost positive the signals are trunked but I know they are analog.
2) Whats the difference between a 430 (random number im using) MHz radio and an 800? I don't specifically need the difference if its too complicated to explain shortly, but basically will the lower number MHz radio rx and tx with a higher number MHz radio?
3) If its possible, are there any other cheaper radios I should look into that will tx and rx in the same ballpark as a cp200? new or used, im not picky as long as it works. Also as far as reliability, the most exposure is rain. I will only be using this radio as a backup, or as stated earlier, for auxiliary activities with police in a non-enforcement way so reliability isn't as big a deal as the price tag to me.
I know that's a lot of questions for a new guy, but this seemed like the best place to get them answered. Also, my pd chief knows im looking and is perfectly ok with me operating on the police radio for auxiliary assistance. We're a small dept with no spare xts's for me to purchase, that definitely was my first question to him. :)
Thanks for the help!

Does anyone have any idea what the TG for Davie PD are?
The last post mentioning anything was in 2007.
I know that BSO dispatches for them, but cannot locate any info on the database for them.

Just curious, why aren't high end radios ever on amazon?
I've never seen a radio above a Satelitt 750 on Amazon. Is there a reason why ICOM and others won't sell high end products there?????
Thanks, just curious

2010 Toronto G20's
Hello everyone,
Was wondering if anyone has any recordings of the police during the G20 summit series in Toronto, in 2010. After seeing the videos of some of the police activity I think it'd be pretty interesting to hear.
Anyone willing to upload to Dropbox?
Thanks.

Win92 and Windows 8
I'm trying to pull data off of my Pro-2067 using Win92 so I can make some edits. While Win92 successfully puts the radio in clone mode and the radio starts transmitting data, Win92 just times out waiting for a particular byte pattern. I ran a serial port monitor program and I do see data coming back from the radio, but on a quick scan through the beginning of the transmission I don't see the data Win92 is looking for. Any thoughts?
Interesting audio problem with 436.
Just this afternoon I noticed that just before a broadcast occurs and after there is a pop or a click, when using the head phones but not on the speaker of the unit. Its like a pop kind of have not noticed it before. kind of irritating.
Do you have that with your unit?
It does not sound like a mike being keyed but an electrical pop.
During the transmission it sounds clean.
The pop is the same volume regardless of the volume or so it seems.
This only happens with the head phones.

USB to VGA adapter??
I have a Dell Inspiron 15R laptop with USB ports-3.0 and USB ports-2.0.
What I am trying to do is connect a Dell 1100MP projector to the laptop and get a Powerpoint slideshow to show up on the projector.
The projector has a VGA female connection on the back, I think it's the same kind of plug that the older analog monitors had.
The laptop doesn't have a VGA connection on it, it has an HDMI and the USB connections on it.
I'm not sure if this will work for what I'm trying to do:Amazon.com : Cable Matters Gold-Plated Active HDMI to VGA Adapter (Male to Female) with 3 Ft USB-Power - Black : Electronics
Anyone know if this will do what I need it to?
Anything I find that has a USB to VGA adapter looks like it has some type of card that installs in the pc to add additional monitors or it just looks very confusing to me and looks like it's more than what I really need.
I would like some help with this matter if possible....Thanks

Make Antenna Connection More Direct
I have an Antenna Craft ST2 hooked up to my BCT15X, and I was looking for ways to make the connection more direct. Currently it goes from a "y" connection on the antenna through an "f" coax cable, then an "f" to "bnc" adapter into my scanner. Any ideas would be great

XPR 6350 won't update on windows XP
Trying to do a firmware update on a few of our portables. I've got an old laptop running win XP that we utilize for some of this. I can read, write and clone radios just fine, but when I go to update, I get a message telling me I don't have the correct cable or something to that effect. Occasionally it will also try to find a CH FLASHZAP driver (and fail).
Meanwhile, I can update just fine with my windows 7 laptop.
Same version of CPS 9.0 on both computers. Firmware R01.08.32 -> R01.11.21
What gives?

MARCS System Question
I have two MARCS Systems set up on my 996XT. They are identical other than the TG's programmed to them. On the primary system, all TG traffic is "welcome". On the secondary system, I would like to listen to only certain TGs. When I shut off the primary system, I still get the full traffic on the secondary system as if it is the primary. Is there a way to lock out all traffic on the secondary system except the TGs programmed?

Pro-18, Please help guys...
Hey everyone,
Looks like a made a big mistake. After reading some posts saying that you can use ezscan to upload the Canadian frequencys to a pro-18 I attempted to do so. Now i cannot receive any p25 traffic. No idea at all whats going on here.
I have tried everything I can think off. Cpu/dsp firmware reflashes, sd card format/reload, even using the iscan software does the same thing.
Everything else works but p25 traffic, and it was working great before i used the ezscan software.
Guys, any ideas?

I was wondering if you all had the answer to this, the reason I want to use the unitrunker is to match the radio ids with the talkgroup ie say tg 432 is the dispatch for the fd(also tone out) and say tg 729 is listed as firehouse3 what I want to program is the actual vehicle and or the portable radio so if the firetruck from firehouse 3 is talking and the vehichle is called engine 9 under its radio id I want to program that in as engine 9 firehouse 3 a lot of times you will see the tg id but it could be someone else using it especialy when their is a lot of radio traffic ie when ems is on the scene as well, if I downloaded the site im monitoring to untrunker would it automatically do it for me or do I need to watch and listen closely when the radio ids are showing and what is being said and then manualy add it when I find out who the id belongs to from listing also when I do have the unitrunker working the signal shuts off when the tone out is used every time the ems or fire send a tone it shuts off wont record that id I have to hit the start button(radio with antenna picture) why is that? i really apprecite your alls help and knowledge my site im looking at is Brownsville tx ps I havnt set up the data logging yet because it says its sent to the hard drive and takes up space can I use a pen drive and have it sent to that? in the radio id spectrum how do you tell from portable and vehicle, by the numbers of digits? thanks again in advance

ID Johnson Mobile With Tone Alert Built In?
I brought this up in passing with the telephone thread. I remember seeing this radio either in S9 or Radio and Electronics product announcement.
It looked like one of the small mobles that I think had the horizonal wheel channel selector or maybe could have been one of the push button channelized units as this had to be between '72 and '75. It was not one of the phone type units.
The tone alert feature was built in, not an accessory box and as I mentioned earlier, the blurb mentioned that it "rang like a bell" with an incoming call. That's not a mechanical buzzer, sonalert, or peizo transducer of that time, but apparently a mechanical ringer. That wouldn't be uncommon back then as horn honk relay units for cars and trucks and ringing mechanisms were found aboard vessels as radio alerts.
Anyone know what this unit model was or was it something announced and never made past a special order or concept?
